No people gather in a house among the houses of Allah (masaajid) to recite the Book of Allah to learn and teach the Qur’an (among themselves),
except that there will descend upon them tranquility
and mercy would cover them
and the angels would surround them
and Allah mentions them in the presence of those near Him
[Sahih Muslim, 2699a]

Every Friday at 7pm, there will be a gathering in Madinah Masjid to read and discuss one juz (one thirtieth) of the Qur’an starting Friday 6th May with the first juz.

This is a free class which is intended to help:

  • Encourage reading of the Qur’an
  • Develop tadabbur (reflection) and engagement on the Qur’anic message

What do you need to bring along?

Bring your copy of the Qur’an with Arabic and your favourite translation in a language you understand. If you don’t have a translation of the meaning, we would recommend the Clear Qur’an by Dr Mustafa Khattab.

What if you can’t read Arabic?

Not a problem. You can still listen to the reading and follow the translation preparing for the discussion on the key themes and lessons.

Who is the teacher?

There will be a few Hufaadh and Qur’an teachers in attendance although this is a facilitated discussion (as mentioned in the hadith above), rather than a lecture.

The sessions will be held in person in the masjid (you’ll find us upstairs if there is another programme going on downstairs).

How does it work?

All students are encouraged to read the juz in a language they understand prior to attending the circle so that there is familiarity with the content and ample time to think through the points before the session.

Those attendees who can read the Qur’an in Arabic fluently will read through the juz aloud reading an ayah each in succession. Others can listen and follow on their Qur’an or read through the translation of the meaning. On the completion of the Arabic reading, all attendees will be asked to share their reflections on the juz.
